Getting Started
Focus is a web based application which supports early years establishments and schools to access and interrogate holistic data across the BGE in line with Glasgow’s Improvement Challenge (2015-2020), which includes the government’s Scottish Attainment Challenge.
Focus allows users to examine achievement of Curriculum for Excellenece (CfE) levels through a number of lenses including EAL and SIMD. FOCUS also enables establishments to see their position in relation to school demographics against the city as a whole via the Equity Profile.
FOCUS Usage and Data Usage Protocol
Focus is to be used by Education Services staff.
Glasgow City Council policies and guidance on usage of data must be observed.
All data within FOCUS must be treated as carefully as all pupil related data. This includes any data which is downloaded from the application to be used elsewhere.
FOCUS data should not be used publicly unless appropriate disclosure control has been implemented to prevent the identification of individuals.
Unauthorised access and inappropriate use of Focus and the data contained therein may result in disciplinary action.

Accessing FOCUS
School Users
Heads of establishments have been sent a link to the website with a username and password for the establishment. The Head Teacher will be responsible for managing the login and password for the school. Headteachers should share the login details with relevant school staff.
| Headteachers should ensure all staff are familiar with the annual data held in FOCUS as it relates to whole school improvement planning and individual staff remits. |
HQ users
HQ users will have been sent a link to the website with a username and password.
Should you need your FOCUS account details sent to you again or your password reset then please contact the PPR Team – PPR@education.glasgow.gov.uk
It has been found that FOCUS performs best when using Chrome as your internet browser but it will work using Internet Explorer as well.
Login
School User
Using the username and password assigned to your establishment you can log in to FOCUS which will take you to the Equity Profile for your school.
HQ User
Using your username and password you can log in to FOCUS which will take you to the front page where you can select a school from the dropdown menu then hit the “View School” button to take you to that schools Equity Profile
